I just installed RAID into my media server. And I also have Twonky + DSM-320. I have tried MS Media Connect 2.0, MS Media Player 11 (Media Connect 3.9) and D-Link Media server. Twonky beats them all big way. It is fast and dont skip. It handles large collections (5000+ tracks) and hase very handy Artist Index, Album Index etc mode. I recommend Twonky to everybody.

Sean, nice work. However, I tried to add it to my site, but couldn't get it working. The value of the img's src is always "/". Inspecting your assembly with Reflector, I noticed that the result of String.Format is never used.

That is what happens when you make a change as your walking out the door. lol. I put up a fresh copy this morning that should take care of the bug.

[;)] Yeah, it works much better now. Thanks Sean.
For people who do not run CS in the root, the file has been fixed.
This week... Community Server 3.0 is now Community Server 2007. Rob Howard makes the official announcement.
Very nice! I do think you should go for a larger size, though..16x16 is just so very small. 32x32 is only about 100-200 bytes more data (PNG compressed).
Thanks Jeff.
I was thinking the same thing earlier.
Thanks, the player is great. Everything works fine, except the audio plays at a high speed. The MP3s have a sampling rate of 44 kHz.
We had the opposite problem over at DigitalDjPool.com.
From the Flash Players Developer:
If you encounter too fast or too slow playback of MP3 files or if your progressbar is messed up, your MP3 files contain variable bitrate encoding. Flash isn't very good at handling these, it's best to stick to constant bitrate encoding. Also make sure to stick to a sampling frequancy that is a multitude of 11.025kHz (48kHz, for example, also poses problems)
I can't thank you enough. I realized that most of my MP3s had a sampling rate of 24 kHz and after changing them to 44.1kHz everything worked fine. The player is just what I have been looking for. It would be cool if you good get the title on the player to be customizable as opposed to defualting to the name of the MP3 file.

I was just looking at the MP3Player.txt file and noticed the url for the flash player. The player on that page is actually different than the one above. Is there anyway to switch players or at the very least hide the fake equalizer (it takes up a lot of space)? I've tried to do this myself, but I've failed miserably.
You can modify the player by editing the xml file in the ~/Utility/MP3/ directory!

Does this go back and retro-fit all your blog posts with the signature or is it only for newly added blog posts?
Kingsley,
This module will append the text to the Rss/Atom feeds for EVERY blog post you have made. It will not alter the text in the database so you can disable this module and your blog post will go back to normal.
Friggin awesome! Since I was the one who asked the question and hadn't gotten around to working through Jose's answer, I'm thrilled. Thank you!
Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing.
BTW, I don't suppose there is any way to append the sig to the posts in the site's main feed as well?
Thanks!
Ryan,
The settings are on a "Per Blog" basis. If Blog A has a signature set, it will be displayed in the MainFeed. If Blog B doesn't have a signature set, then there will be no signature to display in the MainFeed.
If you want all of the blogs on your site to have a signature then you will have to modify the settings for each blog. You could also modify the AggregateRssHandler.cs file in the CS core to alter the text of every post that gets aggregated.

Hi Sean, Thanks! Your blog is great! You've got yourself a new regular reader.
So I just copied all that text into notepad to create a robots.txt file. I am pretty technologically clueless - please bear with my very basic questions...So II just copy what you wrote exactly as it is? The Number signs and all (####) ???
Also, back to the feed problem and being listed in search engines. The feeds are located on some of the same pages as I have content.
For example:
[TOP of PAGE]
Original article titles, w/ links to the articles
[BOTTOM OF PAGE]
Google feeds.
So how do exclude just that feed part of the page from being read? I just want it to read the site description you directed me to create in the control panel, and bring it up.

Okie,
You should check out http://www.robotstxt.org/ to get an understanding of how the robots.txt file works. In short, it enables you to tell search engines what pages NOT to index.
You may also want to look into Google's Webmaster Tools:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/
That will allow you to tell what pages Google SHOULD index. It also provides a way to give descriptions to Google.

SpacePlex Rocks!
I don't get it, Carknee. Looks like you did a great job on the .NET implementation though. If you feel like blogging about it after you've used it a bit with an example of it in action, that would help thick guys like me understand its usefulness. Regards!
Hi Dave,
The Gravatar control isn't for Community Server. In order to make it work with CS I would need to modify the "Leave a Comment" form to store an email address and I don't see the point with CS 2007 hanging overhead.
Now, with CS 2007 and Ben's nice Utility Controls we can hook this up without any core changes!
This was just a silly 15 minute exercise to take my mind off my existing projects.
Thanks Sean, just got my CS site set up tonight, and thought somebody else might have a quick list of excluded URLs

I need to assemble a few home office pics. I have 4 desktops but not a conventional desk among them. I use two former kitchen counters for desks. My handyman guy attached one of them to a wall, so there's minimal underneath support required. Go unconventional as much as possible is my advice!
i use CS 2.1 (sp2 i think) to get this done.
i know this post is a little old but what i have done to play multiple mp3's in a row was
1. upload all my mp3s to a folder on my server
2 open windows media play
3 created a playlist (.wpl)
4 upload playlist to the same folder as mp3s on my server
5 under the video option i added (example http://yourhost.com/playlist1.wpl)
to my suprise it worked like a charm. the only bad thing is no one nows whats in the list but me or the person creating the blog. but if you wanted you could make multiple playlist and then list what song is in the playlist on each blog.
hope this helps aleast on person out there o this also works if you create a playlist for videos as well

Can you post a screenshot for what this looks like? And how will you know when a new post has been submitted? Is there an editor's queue?
Hi Robert,
There is no queue or anything special with this. The way we are going to work it is that all submitted "articles" (blog posts) will be emailed to our Content Manager guy. His job will be to clean the article up and make the post as the original author.
The only change to the user interface would be an additional textbox on the "Write a Blog Post" page that allows you to enter in the username of the member who wrote the article.
Does that clear it up?
PingBack from http://www.funpal.net/flash-video-player-37-flv-player/
How about modifying the mp3 player tag so that it also plays video - flv files?
The capability is built into the player itself...
JRedekop:
I believe it will play flv files even though you use the [mp3] tags, but I haven't tried.
It would be cool if we could set the FlashVars somehow, not to mention the height & width
JRedekop, did you download and read the documentation in the zip file? All of this was accounted for (sort of)! The flash vars can be set, but they are set site wide in the communityserver.config file. You can set the width/height on a per post basis though.

Firefox also has the F6 shortcut for this, I believe this is the same for IE, not F4 ;)
Tom,
You are 1/2 right... F6 does appear to work in IE and FF which is great thanks! However, F4 in IE also brings focus to the address bar (I just double checked) ;p
Cool use of the CustomAction! You could also use a SubForm control to implement this behavior and prevent the double-save.
I tried to download the CarKnee Bundle but I keep getting a corrupt ZIP file. Is HTTPCompression enabled on ASPX pages on your site? That will corrupt ZIP files being served from the file gallery.
Ben,
I was aware of the possibility that compression could kill zip's, but nobody ever compained for my site!
I have now disabled it for .aspx and you should be good to go.
Thanks.
Haha - whoops. Somehow I was using v1.3 of your bundle. Everything works quite well in the latest version. Good work!
I have one request, though - and it's probably unrealistic. Change [mp3] to something else? [media]..?
Since the flash player does much more than just mp3...

Sean,
The method is designed to substitute the actual plain field value with a runtime value, that might not yet be saved to a Sitecore item.
So using the OverrideFieldValue would make FieldRenderer function _as if_ Sitecore field contained that value. But it doesn't mean that it will be exactly what is displayed by the control.
Good catch on the bug. To fix it I would (and I will) modify the GetFieldValue processor so that it is aware of overriden value, instead of adding a new one later on.
Thanks for the report.

I would definitely go for two VelociRaptor's in RAID 0 as I would argue it is the single most noticeable performance improvement that you can generally do is increase your disk speed. Just build your machine in anticipation that it will die at any moment (which you should do anyway), with a good image and daily backups and you will be fine. I have been running RAID 0 on my main desktop's for the last 7 years and the rare occasion that you have a problem is worth the constant speed boost you get.
Sitecore's Webforms for Marketers (v2) module is pretty impressive out of the gate. There was an
I've recently been doing some work with the Web Forms for Marketers (2.0) module and I must say I
I must disagree with your "gotchas".
First of all the module is oriented to users who are not developers. It can explain their designer tool and markup structure. I believe the most of customizations can be reached using CSS. I have done it several times and seen a lot of such examples in live sites.
2 and 3 are rather good solutions for the master - slave environment. As far as I know those "gotchas" are premeditated steps to make “web forms” support the “Sitecore staging” module.
I would not advise using versioning for list controls at all. I entirely approve of their acquiring items as Sitecore item names. Such a way assures that values in list items are immutable. I guess the feature that you really need is multilanguage. It would be great if list items could be localized. I believe Sitecore is either thinking or even implementing it now.
Sean, thanks a bunch. I also like the idea bout css-related images being placed in a folder inside and relative to the css files themselves. In our case, we use the same branding across several web apps where each may have its own images (or not) – it would make sense to copy a “css” folder from one project to the next instead of fishing for gifs or jpgs.
On a separate note, one important thing to point out about Sitecore, CSS and their Telerik HTML editor is that in certain cases, what-you-see-is -not-what-you-get or, WYSI(n)WYG in fact, the rad control that’s built into Sitecore can be given its own stylesheet so that your custom design features can be forced to display accordingly and show up in the little drop-down as a choice to your users… For example, if you choose to style all of your bulleted lists in any way, the editor will still display them as black dots and your content contributors will begin calling you to tweak their designs.
